How to Make a Replacement Fiat Key

Fiat is returning their classic Fiat cars and it's a great opportunity to purchase one. What happens if your key fob breaks?

Locksmiths can change Fiat keys for you. A lot of people visit the dealer, but they're not necessary. We'll explain what you'll need to provide your locksmith over the phone.

Keys that were stolen or lost are not found

Losing keys can be massive hassle and a huge stressor. Based on the frequency at which you lose your keys, it may be best to get an extra key and keep it in a safe place. This way, if you do lose your keys they can be quickly and easily replaced. You can also contact the local police department to report your keys and have them returned if they are found.

Many people assume that the only solution for Fiat key replacement is to go to the dealership, but this is not always true. Locksmiths are able to assist with the procedure. They can also provide a cheaper solution. These locksmiths will utilize your VIN number along with the unique codes on the key fob in order to create a key for you.

It is essential to know the information that you will have to give locksmiths when you need to replace a Fiat vehicle key. The first thing that they will likely ask is the year and the name of the Fiat model. They will also want to know whether you require remote keys or a standard key. In most instances, you can ask a locksmith over the phone what type of Fiat key is needed.

Transponder Chips

Transponder chips are tiny circuits within your key that communicate with your car's immobilizer. When the key is switched on, the chip sends a code to Body Control Module (BCM) of the vehicle. If the ID code matches with that stored in the BCM memory the immobilizer is disabled and the engine will begin. If  fiat 500 keys  doesn't match the security light will be lit and the car will not start.

A transponder isn't invincible however, because car thieves have developed in the past to find ways to evade security systems to prevent theft. A spare key that has an active transponder will help to prevent this.

We recommend calling us for an estimate if you need an additional key with a transponder that functions. To receive the most efficient service, ensure you have all the details in order. We'll need the year in which your Fiat was manufactured and the model name. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will be happy to assist you.

Smart Keys

Smart keys aren't just cool convenience but they also make it harder for thieves to steal your car. Instead of transmitting the same frequency signal similar to traditional key fobs smart keys broadcast different encrypted signals every time they unlock doors or remotely open the trunk. The car's computer recognizes the different frequencies, and will only allow it to start when the correct key matches.

A BMW smart key, for example is equipped with a tiny LCD touchscreen in color that performs the standard functions of a standard key fob (locking, unlocking and keyless start) however, it also gives the option to store personal driver settings, turn off windows or sunroofs, and even instruct your car to automatically park inside the key. These kinds of features are what help to set smart keys apart from traditional keys.

Despite this added layer of security, there are still ways that smart keys can be compromised. If someone in your vicinity receives the low frequency transmissions transmitted between your smart keys and your vehicle and they gain access to your car (or at the very least attempt to) by spotting these signals while you're away from your car for example, at restaurants or at a gas station.

The good news is that most smart keys have a backup battery that will kick in if your main battery goes out. Furthermore, a lot of smart key batteries are easy to replace and typically don't require any tools.
